The stem is erect, 4 to 6 feet high; the wood is light; the bark is thin, somewhat smooth, and brownish. The seeds are numerous, compressed, 1 inch long, reddish-brown externally, dark-brown internally, and imbedded in a whitish, sweetish, buttery pulp.History and general information: The Cacao tree was cultivated in Mexico and Central and South America for many years. Indeed, long before the discovery of North America, at one time Cacao was used by the natives as a major source of food as well as currency.  Currently it is chiefly cultivated in Brazil, Costa Rica, Guayaquil, Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru, Guatemala, the island of Trinidad, and most of the other West Indian Islands; also in Africa, Ceylon, Samoa, and other parts of the globe.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Chapter 4&lt;br /&gt;Reference guide to Super Foods Cacao&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;History and general information&lt;/b&gt;: The Cacoa are the seeds taken from the fruit. Cacao nuts or seeds are prepared either by natural drying techniques, in which case they retain their rich mineral and nutritional value. They will also retain their bitterness and astringency. The sweating process is another process used and much of the rich nutrition is destroyed. Organic Raw Cacao nuts that have been naturally dried are the richest in nutrition, minerals and flavour.Cacao beans contain 12-50% fat and no sugar, depending on the variety and growing conditions. There is no known evidence linking Cacao bean consumption with obesity. It originated in the central Valley of Mexico. It was largely cultivated by the Aztecs in Pre-Colombian times and was one of the five most important food plants at that time. After the arrival of the Spaniards, the plant became almost extinct because of cultural and religious reasons.Chia is grown commercially for its seed. It is very rich in omega-3 fatty acid since it is the vegetable source with the most omega-3 content, specifically A-Linolenic Acid or ALA. It also adds antioxidants and a variety of vitamins, minerals and fiber. The word Chia is derived from the Aztec word “chian”, meaning oily. The present Mexican State of Chiapas got its name from the Nahua “chia water” or “river." The species was named Hispanica ("of Spain") because Linnaeus described the species from cultivated plants in Spain.Chia is an annual herb growing to 1 m tall, with opposite leaves 4–8 cm long and 3–5 cm broad. Nutritionist, Physician and Surgeon who lived from approximately 460 B.C. until around 370 B.C. He is considered “The Father of Medicine” and is credited as being the first physician who believed that diseases were not caused by superstition or gods, but rather that diseases had natural causes. &lt;br /&gt;Hippocrates beliefs were designed and completely laid out over 2500 years ago as ten rules. And why would&lt;br /&gt;one want to?...they are quick, easy, diverse and super healthy if made correctly.  Unfortunately, Timmy has, once&lt;br /&gt;again, opted for the lowest common denominator when it comes to their ingredients.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I will give them credit for at least putting in some real fruit, which is more than can be said for their Apple Cider -&lt;br /&gt;which is nothing but artificial flavors and colors.  To the dismay of those who do understand nutrition, Timmy has&lt;br /&gt;made nearly a complete mockery of the smoothie by adding in pasteurized dairy, harmful sugars (all contain 30&lt;br /&gt;grams of sugar or more, which isn't far off Coca Cola's 39 grams) like "high-fructose corn syrup" and artificial&lt;br /&gt;flavors/colors (caramel color).  The protein content, which only comes from the milk and whey (very cheap and&lt;br /&gt;poor sources), is only about 2 grams - not enough to counteract the damage from all the sugar.  The fruit itself&lt;br /&gt;is a "puree concentrate" which is likely very poor quality (acidic) and certainly not FRESH, which is what most&lt;br /&gt;smoothie creators demand.   &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In all, Timmy has failed miserably due their penchant for cheap ingredients and the reality is that their "smoothies"&lt;br /&gt;are nothing more than glorified milkshakes.  But this may not stop many Canadians from purchasing them since most&lt;br /&gt;don't bother to read ingredients and they are not readily available at the store or on the cup label. Radioactive iodine has already been found in Seattle; however officials tell us that the amounts detected were so small that it will not endanger health. The officials have told us that by the time the radio-active fall out reaches Ontario it will be minuscule and be no worst than the radiation we are exposed to daily.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Still many people have been calling me asking for potassium iodine pills and iodine drops, knowing that the Japanese authorities distributed iodine to people living near nuclear power plants to help protect them from radioactive fall out. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Potassium iodide, also called KI, only protects the thyroid gland from exposure to radioactive iodine, which could lead to thyroid cancer years after exposure. KI does not protect a person from the immediate effects of radiation. Nausea and vomiting often begin within hours of exposure to high levels of radiation, followed by diarrhea, headaches and fever. These symptoms will not be avoided by taking one or more than one Potassium Iodine pills. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In fact, popping potassium iodide is a really bad idea.  Serious symptoms including burning of the mouth and throat, vomiting, stomach ache, racing heart and dizziness or vertigo is possible by taking too much potassium iodine. It has been reported by several US poison control centers that people have already experienced negative side effect to KI.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The best way to protect yourself from radiation poisoning is not KI tablets unless you are within a 200 mile radius of the nuclear accident.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Eating foods high in potassium and iodine is the best way to protect yourself from radiation without harming your health. When you "get to the bottom" of something - finding its "root" or "kernel" of truth - we are finally exposing that which is most shielded from view. I applaud these parents for stepping up and fighting for the health of their children.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We have known about the dangers and alleged dangers of EMF’s for at least 10 years, yet we have chosen to close one eye and many of us have closed both eyes. Why?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Are modern conveniences really more important then our health?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Are all of the scientists wrong and health Canada right?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In 2007 the German government said “People should avoid using Wi-Fi wherever possible because of the risks it may pose to health,”&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Germany's official radiation protection body also advises its citizens to use landlines instead of mobile phones, and warns of "electrosmog" from a wide range of other everyday products, from baby monitors to electric blankets.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Environment Ministry recommended that people should keep their exposure to radiation from Wi-Fi "as low as possible" by choosing "conventional wired connections". It added that it is "actively informing people about possibilities for reducing personal exposure".&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sir William Stewart, Britain's official health protection watchdog, who has produced two reports calling for caution in using mobile phones and who has also called for a review of the use of Wi-Fi in schools. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There are many reports and a lot of scientific and systematic evidence that shows that EMF is a serious problem that should not be ignored. As more and more people become electro hypersensitive, only about 50% will find out what is causing their problems the other 50% will blame aging as the reason for their health conditions and ignore the evidence that could give them their health back.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For the people who are interested here are some tips to help you protect yourself. I suggest you test these out for a week or n=more and see if you are feeling any different, &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1. Avoid installing low-voltage halogen, florescent tubes and energy-efficient compact fluorescent lighting (CFL). All of them generate a nasty electromagnetic field which is harmful to our health. To save on hydro buy LED light bulbs, they are becoming more available and they are very efficient and extremely safe.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. When replacing your computer monitor or TV purchase the new LCD they emit much less EM radiation.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3. Clean up the electrical power cords. Power bars and transformers around your computer and desk and reroute them away from your feet and seating area, and never use a laptop PC on your lap.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4. Do not install a wireless internet and if you have already shut it off at night and I recommend highly that you go back to hard wires. If you do not want to do that then at least purchase and install Graham/Stetzer filters to protect yourself and your family.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;5. Check to see if you have a DECT cordless phone. DECT phones constantly transmit a strong RF signal, even when not in use just sitting in the cradle. If you have one, get rid of it, and/or unplug it at night. I know people who shut off the power bar that the wireless and DECT phone is plugged into. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;6. Limit the time you spend talking on a cordless phone and cell phone, and do not let children under 14 use cell phones.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;7. Replace all the dimmer switches in your house with regular switches. Even when turned completely on full power a dimmer chops-off part of the electrical current, then it discards in the form of a strong electromagnetic field. Dimmer switches also create dirty electricity that can contaminate an entire home’s electrical wiring with dangerous high frequency energy. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;8. Protect your baby. Move baby cribs and beds a few feet away from walls containing electrical wires and don’t locate cribs or beds on walls opposite electronic equipment like computers, entertainment centre and clothes dryers and microwaves. Most walls do not block the magnetic field thrown by electronic devices.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;9. Get rid of your microwave oven. If you must use a microwave stand at least five feet away from microwaves when in operation; better still leave the room, even a properly functioning microwave can throw a strong electromagnetic field. A leaky one is even more dangerous. Always keep you microwave unplugged when not in use.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;10. Consider purchasing a EMF meter or have a professional come in and measure the EMF’s in your home. They will recommend filters, new switches and other ways to protect your family. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Congratulations to the Rodney Palmer of Simcoe County Safe School Committee, keep up the good work.
